We offer the following opportunities for service to our community and beyond:

Monthly Valley Mission Meals.  We have coordinated the sign up list by calling various groups in the church for committing to and serving the meals.  Some church groups that have served the monthly meal include: the women’s group, LEAP; CELC Choir; CELC Men's group; the WELCA women's group; Fellowship and Hospitality committee and others.

AUGUSTA FREE CLINIC MEAL- We provide a meal for the Free Clinic volunteers each spring.

FRIENDSHIP CLUB SQUARE DANCE AND BAR-B-QUE

We do an annual square dance and BBQ as an outreach to provide recreational and fellowship opportunities for this group of physically and mentally challenged adults.

“HOME-GROWN / HOME-MADE” TABLE- SUMMER 2007

Social Ministry coordinates this summer event with proceeds collected going to the local food pantry, Staunton Augusta Church Relief Association ( SACRA).   Church members donate home-made or home-grown items for which others make a donation and take home.  All proceeds go toward helping the hungry through SACRA.

HUNGER EMPHASIS FOR NOVEMBER 2007-

We will promote WORLD HUNGER emphasis, AND THE VERONA FOOD PANTRY.  Donations will be taken each Sunday during the month.

ADOPT – A – FAMILY- Dec. 2007

Social Ministry will once again ask the church to “adopt” a family for Christmas this year.  This event will be held during ADVENT.

ALL YEAR LONG- Continue recycling used eyeglasses for donation to the Staunton Lions Club.  Donations can be made to the recycling drop off, “OSCAR” (old USPS mail box painted purple with Lions emblem), at the Food Lion on Coalter Street.

“HOME-GROWN / HOME-MADE” TABLE- SUMMER 2007

Our "Home-Grown / Home-Made" table has grossed $177.75 so far this summer through the end of July.  After paying our bill for $110.25 (for the free-trade coffees and teas) to Lutheran World Relief, our net proceeds are $67.50.  We will be sending a check to SACRA for this amount sometime soon.

Please continue to support our table for the rest of the summer.  As always, donated home-grown produce or home-made items are always welcome.  All proceeds collected will benefit SACRA.

Thanks to all who have contributed items and purchased items this summer thus far.  For anyone who loves tea, we have several boxes remaining.  Suggested donation is $4.25.  Please see Anita or me if you are interested.

Sincerely,

Woody Sanders, Chair, Social Ministry
